With the 2023 NFL Draft right around the corner, rumors are beginning to run rampant about potential trades to keep an eye on. One name that has been starting to draw some buzz is Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. Arizona holds the No. 3 overall pick and could opt to take a new quarterback, which would then allow them to trade Murray. A team like the Indianapolis Colts could make a ton of sense.

At this point in time, the Colts are scheduled to be on the clock with the No. 4 overall pick. Both the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans are expected to take a quarterback, with Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud expected to go with those picks. Anthony Richardson is the only other quarterback that looks to be a “franchise changing” type of guy.

Should the Cardinals choose to take Richardson, that would leave the Colts scrambling to make a move.

One former NFL executive shared an intriguing thought that could come to pass if the Cardinals take a quarterback.

“Indianapolis has had interest in Kyler Murray in the past and likely still would now if he becomes available. Say Arizona takes (Anthony) Richardson at three, I think the Colts would pursue a trade for Kyler.”

Murray is coming off of a season that ended prematurely due to a torn ACL. He ended up playing in 11 games, completing 66.4 percent of his pass attempts for 2,368 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. In addition to those numbers, he also picked up 418 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Quite simply, the Colts would make out like bandits if they’re able to get Murray. He would be a much better option right now than Richardson or Will Levis. This would be a best-case scenario for Chris Ballard and company.

At 25 years old, Murray is still improving and is in the prime of his career. He would fit both the win-now mentality and long-term vision that the Colts have.

Expect to continue hearing more rumors surrounding Murray and the Colts as the draft draws closer. It’s certainly something to keep a close eye on.
