The Washington Commanders have their head coach in Dan Quinn and are now working to fill out their staff. Former Eagles OC Brian Johnson reportedly could be a part of it.

Johnson is expected to interview for the Commanders offensive coordinator job, according to Jordan Schultz.

Brian Johnson was most recently the offensive coordinator for the Eagles last season. He was let go by the Eagles last month.

New Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn faced off against Johnson twice this past season, as well as twice when Johnson was the quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia. Quinn was the defensive coordinator for the Cowboys for three seasons, prior to landing the Washington Commanders head coaching job.

Brian Johnson joined the Eagles in 2021 as the quarterbacks coach, reuniting with Jalen Hurts. Johnson knew the Eagles’ quarterback since his youth.

After serving as the QBs coach for two seasons, Johnson was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023 following Shane Steichen’s departure for the Indianapolis Colts head coaching gig.

However, with steps back on offense, particularly down the stretch, Johnson and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni were criticized, as well as Hurts. But, the head coach is coming back based, while the staff gets a facelift.

Johnson played quarterback at Utah from 2004-08 and turned to coaching in 2010 at his alma mater. He served as the QBs coach and eventually the OC under Kyle Whittingham. He moved to Mississippi State in 2014, coaching QBs.

Following three seasons, Johnson became the OC and QBs coach at Houston in 2017 before going to Florida in 2018 as the QBs coach. He was promoted to OC in 2020, coaching Kyle Trask to his best season in college.

With that, Johnson caught the eye of Sirianni and crew and was hired in Philadelphia the following year. The former Eagles offensive coordinator received head coaching interest via interviews this cycle and it remains to be seen where he’ll end up in 2024.

Sirianni is 34-17 in three seasons with the Eagles and has a 2-3 playoff record. He’s led Philadelphia to the playoffs each season of his tenure, including Super Bowl LVII last year.

Philadelphia lost 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs, putting 2023 as a boom or bust year for the Eagles. Unfortunately for Philadelphia, the Eagles struggled down the stretch and lost in the wild card round of the playoffs. The offense struggled in the playoffs, leading to Johnson being let go.
