Six-year NFL veteran tight end Dalton Schultz has signed a new contract with the Houston Texans. Schultz, a former fourth-round pick, spent the 2023 season with the Houston Texans but has also played for the Dallas Cowboys.

After a productive five seasons with the Cowboys, Dalton Schultz finally tested free agency and ended up with the Houston Texans. Starring alongside rookie phenomenon C.J. Stroud, the former fourth-round pick had one of the best seasons of his career. Appearing in 15 games, Schultz finished the season with 59 receptions for 635 yards and five touchdowns. His presence helped Houston end their postseason drought as the team made it all the way to the AFC Divisional Round before falling to the Baltimore Ravens.

Dalton Schultz originally entered the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Selected by the Dallas Cowboys, the Stanford product spent most of his rookie season as a blocker. Appearing in 11 games, Schultz recorded just 12 receptions for 116 yards on 17 targets. He saw similar usage in 2019, appearing in 16 games while recording just one catch for two yards.

Schultz finally had his big breakout in the 2020 season. Taking over for an injured Blake Jarwin, the backup tight end filled the role and never relinquished the starting position. Appearing in 16 games while making 14 starts, the tight end recorded 63 receptions for 615 yards and four touchdowns. Dalton Schultz proved this wasn’t a one-year fluke in 2021 when he recorded career-highs in receptions (78), yards (808), and touchdowns (eight). Following this impressive campaign, the Cowboys used the franchise tag to keep him around for another season.

While Dalton Schultz had a solid season during his final year in Dallas, he was unable to match the success of 2021. Starting and appearing in 15 games, the big-money tight end finished the year with 57 receptions for 577 yards and five touchdowns and the Cowboys made it to the NFC Divisional Round.
