Report: Dolphins 'expect to be in the mix' for Deshaun Watson
The Miami Dolphins are reportedly one of Deshaun Watson's preferred destinations. Apparently, the franchise would like to reel him in.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are expected to be "in the mix" to acquire Watson from the Houston Texans if he's made available:
"According to a source with direct knowledge, a high-ranking team official has told at least one outsider that the Dolphins expect to be in the mix to acquire Watson if the Texans make him available (which they have not, to this point).
"That person said the Dolphins did not indicate what they believe their chances were or what they were willing to offer, but instead merely acknowledged the possibility of Miami acquiring him."
Texans owner Cal McNair and general manager Nick Caserio have stated time and time again that they have no plans to trade Watson this offseason. However, they may not have a choice if he begins a holdout once 2021 training camp begins.
The Dolphins have the depth and assets needed to acquire the three-time Pro Bowler, including the No. 3 pick in the 2021 draft.
Miami will have some competition for Watson, though. The Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos are also reportedly planning to make an offer for the Clemson product. The Panthers cleared about $20 million in cap space this week and appear very serious about making a run at Watson.
