Report: Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill won't play vs. Jets

The Miami Dolphins' top offensive playmaker won't play Sunday against the New York Jets.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is inactive. The seven-time Pro Bowler suffered an ankle sprain in a Week 14 loss to the Tennessee Titans and missed practice this week.

Entering Week 15, the 29-year-old leads the league in receiving yards (1,542) and is on track to break the record Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson set in 2012 (1,964 yards in 16 games). He also leads the league in receiving TDs (12) and is third in receptions (97).

The injury is a big blow for Miami (9-4), which has been trying to clinch its first AFC East title since 2008. The New York Times simulator gives the Dolphins a 59 percent chance to host a wild-card game if they beat the Jets (5-8).

However, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel recently noted protecting Hill's long-term health is of the utmost importance.

"Bottom line is we'll have a conversation that will be based on — remember, this is Tyreek Hill's career," McDaniel said Friday, per ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacque. "If he's confident that he can go be himself, and I have the support of the trainers that are responsible to the risk, then he'll play. If not, then he won't, and literally every hour, for him, is imperative."

While it's a significant injury, the Dolphins are second in the NFL in points per game (31.6) and have other playmakers who can step up, including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and fellow wideout Jaylen Waddle.

Meanwhile, the Jets have lost five of their last six games. ESPN Analytics gives Miami an 80.3 percent chance to win.
