Report: Eagles hosted free-agent safety Tyrann Mathieu on 'virtual visit'

Three-time All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu had a "virtual visit" with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Mathieu, 29, spent the last three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and is coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons, but was allowed to reach free agency in March. Earlier this week, Mathieu reportedly met with the New Orleans Saints.

On Wednesday, Rapoport reported Mathieu is "in no rush" to sign a new deal and is focused on spending time with family and staying in shape.

Mathieu began his career with the Arizona Cardinals in 2013 and spent five seasons with the team before he was released in 2018. After one season with the Houston Texans, Mathieu joined Kansas City and was a defensive leader for the team as it won Super Bowl LIV and reached Super Bowl LV.

The Eagles have relied on Rodney McLeod to man one of the starting safety roles for the last six seasons, but allowed him to reach free agency earlier this offseason. In March, Philadelphia re-signed safety Anthony Harris to a one-year deal. The team also has Marcus Epps and 2020 fourth-round pick K'Von Wallace at the position.
