In what has now become an annual post, the Jaguars have reportedly re-signed cornerback Tre Herndon to a one-year contract, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The new deal is said to be worth $2.6M guaranteed. The contract represents his most lucrative deal yet with the team.

A former undrafted free agent out of Vanderbilt in 2018, Herndon has spent all of the first five years of his career with the Jaguars, though his role with the team has varied.

After working as a sometime-starter during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Herndon has largely seen himself shifted into a backup role over the past two campaigns.

These past two seasons, Herdon has started just three games while appearing in seven contests on special teams.

The defensive backs group in Jacksonville will likely be led by Tyson Campbell and Darious Williams this coming season. For his part Herndon figures to compete with Montaric Brown (among others) for depth-chart positioning come August camp.
