Report: Jaguars fined for contact violation during OTAs

Reports surfaced earlier on Thursday that the Jacksonville Jaguars, Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers were fined for violating aspects of the collective bargaining agreement dealing with organized team activities.

Eyes were raised when it was learned the Jaguars were fined $200,000, while the Cowboys and 49ers were fined only $100,000. Meanwhile, Jacksonville's Urban Meyer was hit for $100,000, but Dallas' Mike McCarthy and San Francisco's Kyle Shanahan received $50,000 punishments.

According to Mark Long of The Associated Press, the Jaguars' discipline stems from a contact violation between receivers and defensive backs during 11-on-11 drills on June 1. Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk added a full response from the Jaguars:

"We’ve been informed of the fines issued by the league and will accept the NFL discipline as it pertains to a contact violation during practice on June 1. The Jaguars are vigilant about practicing within the CBA rules and will re-emphasize offseason training rules as they relate to contact. We are looking forward to the start of training camp later this month."

PFT noted the 49ers were ordered to cancel their final week of OTAs last month. Shanahan previously told reporters it was his call to prematurely end OTAs and cancel mandatory minicamp sessions.

The Cowboys lost an OTA workout for 2022, and the Jaguars had two OTA practices scrapped for next offseason as part of their punishments.
