Report: Jaguars trying to land massive stadium deal in Jacksonville

The Jaguars want to land a significant stadium deal and stay in Jacksonville.

"We're very confident we are going to get a solution here in Jacksonville," Jaguars president Mark Lamping told The Athletic's Jeff Howe. "We are now ready to engage the community with what we think the stadium solution should be."

Howe reported if the Jaguars reach a deal with the city and the NFL approves the plan, it should solidify their future in Jacksonville.

The renovations to TIAA Bank Field could start in 2026 and end in 2027. Consequently, the team might have to play elsewhere.

The Jaguars could host games during the renovations, but it would add two more years to the project and increase costs by $100M, per Lamping.

Since Jacksonville's other stadiums have a capacity of less than 30,000, moving to Camping World Stadium in Orlando (140 miles away) or Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville (75 miles away) seems logical. Both stadiums have a capacity of over 60,000, comparable to several NFL stadiums.

London is another option. The Jaguars have played the most games in London since 2007 (nine). However, several logistical hurdles make a home schedule abroad seem unlikely.

The Jaguars are a franchise that's on the rise. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence, 23, carried them to their first playoff win since 2017 and their fourth division title last season.

If Lawrence keeps flourishing, they could build a potential AFC powerhouse and Super Bowl contender, giving Jacksonville a feather in its cap.

The team trying to stay is a great sign for the city and its NFL future.
