Could former Bears guard Kyle Long come out of retirement and join the Jets? Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

Report: Jets trying to coax Kyle Long out of retirement

It appears the New York Jets are trying to bolster their offensive line depth ahead of the 2020 season, but they aren't doing it in an easy way. The Jets are reportedly trying to coax former Chicago Bears lineman Kyle Long out of retirement, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

When Long retired, he noted the many injuries he suffered during his career left him “unable to fulfill my end of the bargain” on the field. He only appeared in 30 games over the last four years due to various health and injury issues.

The 31-year-old posted a picture of himself last week, and he's lost a considerable amount of weight since retiring from football, so a return may be challenging, but it is doable.

He then tweeted something very interesting on Tuesday, adding more fuel to the fire that he may be coming out of retirement.

While nothing's impossible, Yahoo's Eric Edholm reports that the rumors surrounding Long unretiring aren't true, citing sources. Long even tweeted back in January that he wouldn't consider signing with another team, so his future certainly isn't clear right now.

This wouldn't be the first time New York is trying to get a retired player to return to the football field. Last season, the organization was successful in getting Ryan Kalil to come out of retirement, though that didn't really help their cause as they went 7-9 in 2019.
