Report: Josh Doctson to use opt-out year to do humanitarian work in Africa

Josh Doctson is using his opt out year in a very special way.

The Jets wide receiver hasn't explained publicly why he opted out of the 2020 campaign, but has reportedly told people in the organization that he wants to do humanitarian work in Africa, according to the New York Daily News. 

Doctson reportedly said he feels called to help those who are underprivileged in Africa. Last year, he visited Rwanda and wanted to return to continue helping those who are in need. 

The 27-year-old can receive a $150,000 stipend for opting out of the 2020 campaign. Next year, he'll earn $825,000 with the Jets and will have to pay back the $150,000 stipend.

As of now, no other player has opted out to do humanitarian work. Among those who are sitting out the 2020 campaign, though, are eight New England Patriots players, Devin Funchess, Nate Solder and Laurent-Duvernay Tardif.
