Report: LB Kyle Van Noy meeting with Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have already had a big offseason, landing former Defensive Player of the Year and six-time Pro Bowler Khalil Mack via a trade with the Chicago Bears in March. They could reportedly be making another significant addition to their defense.

Van Noy is coming off of a 2021 campaign in which he ranked second on the Patriots in sacks (5.0), tackles for loss (five) and forced fumbles (two), tied for second in passes defensed (career-high 10) and third in quarterbacks hits (seven). Van Noy was released by New England in early March after being with the team since being traded from the Detroit Lions in October 2016 (aside from spending the 2020 campaign with the Miami Dolphins).

The outside linebacker was selected by the Lions in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft and played 30 games with the team, making seven starts. In 67 career regular-season games with the Patriots (53 starts), Van Noy registered 287 tackles, 42 quarterback hits, 21.5 sacks, 19 passes defensed, seven forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and three interceptions.

The 31-year-old earned two Super Bowl rings with New England, and in 11 postseason games with the club, added 49 tackles, 5.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and three passes defended. Van Noy has recorded at least 56 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two passes defensed in five consecutive seasons.
