The Detroit Lions came an NFL weekend away from reaching the playoffs for the first time since the start of the Jim Caldwell era. As the team looks to clear room for 2023 free agents, a former first-round pick is reportedly set to be cut loose.

According to Dave Birkett with The Detroit Free Press, the Lions will part ways with defensive lineman Michael Brockers Friday. The move will help the Lions by $10Mfor their cap space for next season.

As of Friday morning, the Lions had approximately $13M to spend in the offseason, according to Over The Cap.

Brockers was selected by the the then-St. Louis Rams in the first round of the 2012 draft. The Rams later traded Brockers to the Lions for a seventh-round pick in 2021. With Detroit, the lineman started 21 games, recording one sack and 56 total tackles along the way.
