Report: Martin Mayhew joining Washington's front office
Martin Mayhew won't be the next general manager of the Washington Football Team. However, he is still reportedly joining the organization.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Mayhew will be leaving his position as the San Francisco 49ers vice president of player personnel to take a to-be-determined front office role with Washington.
Mayhew had interviewed for the general manager opening before Washington hired Marty Hurney to fill the position earlier this week.
The 55-year-old was with the 49ers for four seasons. He spent 2017 and 2018 as the team's senior personnel executive before becoming vice president of player personnel.
Mayhew also worked for the New York Giants and for the Detroit Lions as general manager from 2008-15. He was responsible for the selections of Matthew Stafford, Ezekiel Ansah and Ndamukong Suh, among others.
He played four seasons for Washington as a defensive back and went to law school after his playing career.
