The Miami Dolphins are planning to keep Tua Tagovailoa
The Miami Dolphins have put a lot of resources into their offense. Offensive-minded head coach Mike McDaniel had the team trade for wide receiver Tyreek Hill last offseason. The move gave third-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa another target, along with tight end Mike Gesicki and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle in 2022. Tua’s progress last season from his two seasons in the NFL was seismic, and the team will continue to build around him.
According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the Dolphins have exercised the fifth-year option for Tua. He’s set to make $23.171 for the 2024 season.
The move was expected but was officially transacted on Monday. It was unclear last offseason if the Dolphins would move on from Tua after four seasons. Tua struggled to play consistently in his first two seasons in Miami but came alive in McDaniels’ offense last year. Tua would have been a strong 2022 NFL MVP candidate had he not suffered injuries.
