Report: NFL eyeing West Virginia resort, college campuses for training camps

National Football League teams around the country are in limbo due to shutdowns and shelter-in-place orders amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Clubs remain committed to beginning summer training camp sessions on time and at their own facilities, but West Virginia could be ready to bring NFL squads to its country roads.

While speaking on NFL Network on Wednesday, insider Ian Rapoport explained that the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., could become a temporary football home this summer:

Rapoport noted that the Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints have already reached out to the Greenbrier. He also explained that colleges in Nevada and Arizona could be training-camp havens for NFL teams, particularly those located in California, if students can't return to campuses for fall terms because of the virus outbreak.

As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported, the Texans and Saints previously held camps at the Greenbrier during the 2010s. If more than a couple of teams need to relocate later this year, though, the Greenbrier could sell its space to the highest bidder and set terms for agreements regardless of any previous relationships.
