Report: NFL monitoring Alvin Kamara battery, have 'no firm timeline' for decision on discipline

As training camps throughout the NFL open next week, a black cloud hangs over New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.

While Kamara has been bracing himself for a six-game suspension stemming from an arrest for battery in February, it appears he'll have to wait a little longer for discipline to be handed down by the NFL.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the NFL continues to monitor Kamara's legal case, but there's "no firm timeline on a decision on discipline."

A league source told Fowler that Kamara could face a suspension, but nothing is definite, and it may very well depend on the case's outcome. The same source told Fowler that, at this stage, Kamara could still suit up for the Saints when the NFL kicks off the 2022 season in September unless he's placed on the commissioner's exempt list.

Kamara was arrested in February just hours after playing in the Pro Bowl in Las Vegas. He's charged with felony battery resulting in substantial bodily harm.

The 26-year-old is due in court for a hearing on August 1.

A third-round pick by the Saints in 2017, Kamara has made the Pro Bowl in all five seasons with New Orleans. Last season, he finished with 898 rushing yards, 439 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns in 13 games for the Saints.
