Report: NFL says Giants' Dexter Lawrence was offside at Washington

The latest twist in the "did he or didn't he" saga involving New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence allegedly jumping offside and gifting Washington Football Team kicker Dustin Hopkins a second opportunity to convert a game-winning field goal comes from the NFL.

According to Mark Maske of The Washington Post, a source claims the NFL says the offsides call was correct:

A combination of respected reporters, angry Giants fans and curious observers took multiple looks at the play in question and said they were certain Lawrence jumped right as the ball was snapped and, thus, committed no penalty. If they are correct, the Giants should've won the game following Hopkins' missed initial attempt.

A full-blown controversy was sparked in the eyes of some when former Giants kicker and two-time Super Bowl champion Lawrence Tynes took to Twitter to say a Big Blue source told him the coaches film shows Lawrence did not jump early.

In the end, opinions on the subject don't matter. The Washington players got a first win of the season they feel they deserved, and the Giants are at 0-2 and left looking for anything positive during a long wait ahead of a home game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 26.
