Report: No Black Friday NFL game until at least 2023

Shortly after the NFL confirmed it will release its full schedule for the 2022 season on May 12, a report emerged claiming that Amazon Prime wanted to add a game on Black Friday to its calendar that will already include the service broadcasting "Thursday Night Football" contests this fall.

It appears diehard NFL fans will have to wait at least one more year to watch a pro football showdown held on the day after Thanksgiving.

According to Peter King of NBC Sports, "lots of issues" will prevent the NFL from scheduling any Black Friday game for the 2022 season. Instead, the league will now look to hold such a matchup for the 2023 season.

During the World Cup draw held earlier last month, the United States Men's National Team was grouped with England, and those two countries will face each other on the afternoon of Black Friday. Per ESPN, kickoff for that massive match is set for 2 p.m. ET.

Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper and James Kratch of Elite Sports NY explained that the NFL is blocked from holding games on Friday nights when high school and college football seasons are ongoing. Theoretically, that shouldn't prevent the league from scheduling a contest for the afternoon of Nov. 24, 2023.
