The Green Bay Packers have a reputation for being active in the first round of the NFL Draft, and recent buzz suggests that general manager Brian Gutekunst may be gearing up for a bold move in the upcoming 2024 draft.

Veteran NFL analyst Chad Forbes shared an intriguing insight on X, indicating that the Packers are among three teams exploring the possibility of trading up with the Seattle Seahawks.

Alongside the Packers, the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders are reportedly also eyeing a potential trade-up scenario.

Should such a trade materialize, it would grant the Packers the 16th overall pick, significantly expanding their draft-day options. Furthermore, it signifies the Packers’ keen interest in securing a particular player or addressing a specific position in the upcoming draft.

However, the complete picture will remain elusive for Packers fans until the draft unfolds at the end of April.

The notion of the Packers potentially ascending several spots in the first round suggests a desire to leapfrog competitors for a coveted player or position.

In this context, targeting an offensive lineman seems logical. With teams like the Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys potentially eyeing offensive line talent between the 16th and 25th picks, a move up the draft board could be strategic.

However, skeptics argue against the Packers trading up for a lineman due to the abundance of prospects available. Presently, nine offensive linemen rank within the top 30 on the consensus big board. Nevertheless, it’s plausible that the Packers have a specific prospect in mind, such as Duke’s Graham Barton.

Alternatively, if the Packers opt to delay selecting an offensive lineman, versatile defensive back Cooper DeJean from Iowa emerges as a viable option. Capable of playing either cornerback or safety, DeJean could address defensive needs for Green Bay. His draft stock might rise, particularly if he impresses during his pro day workout scheduled for April 8.

Ultimately, while the report of the Packers potentially moving up in the draft could serve as a diversionary tactic, the true intentions of the team will only be revealed when the draft kicks off.
