Report: Panthers' Russell Okung considering retirement due to coronavirus concerns

Russell Okung could've played his final game in the NFL.

The Carolina Panthers left tackle reportedly is considering retirement due to coronavirus concerns, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Okung missed 10 games last season with a pulmonary embolism due to blood clots and likely is at higher risk of coronavirus infection.

The 31-year-old strongly considered opting out ahead of the league's Thursday deadline, but decided not to. If he feels football isn't safe, Fowler reports Okung has no issue with walking away from the game.

Carolina traded Trai Turner to the Los Angeles Chargers for Okung in March. The two-time Pro Bowler has one year remaining on his four-year, $53 million contract.

Okung played his first five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks before competing with the Denver Broncos and Chargers. He won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks.
