Report: Patriots discussing every possible QB trade target

The New England Patriots aren't sure who will be their starting quarterback next season. However, it appears they're doing everything possible to upgrade at the position.

According to The Athletic's Jeff Howe, the Patriots have discussed every potential quarterback trade target and have aggressively examined the market. However, they've been put off by high asking prices.

New England reached out to the Detroit Lions about Matthew Stafford, but the veteran quarterback reportedly didn't want to play for the Patriots. The franchise also inquired about Carson Wentz, but was deterred by the Philadelphia Eagles' high asking price.

Howe adds that the Patriots have not ruled out bringing back Cam Newton for a second season despite his struggles in 2020.

Newton recently said that his battle with COVID-19 set him back for the entire season. After he returned from COVID-19, the Patriots went 5-7, with Newton averaging 162 passing yards and 37 rushing yards per game.

Newton's struggles contributed to the Patriots missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2008 campaign.
