It’s been a busy offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers, particularly as they look to re-tool the offensive side of the ball. Amid several changes, the Steelers have been linked to wide receiver Tyler Boyd.
However, according to a recent report, the Steelers are currently dealing with an internal disagreement over Boyd.
“Some people (not all) inside Steelers not 100% on board with signing Tyler Boyd,” Mark Kaboly reported. “There is still time to work things and everything is still on the table but it doesn’t appear anywhere close to a sure thing like it appeared to be a week ago at this time.”
A Pennsylvania native, Tyler Boyd played at the University of Pittsburgh where he was a star. However, he has spent his entire NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals, one of the Steelers’ biggest rivals. In recent years, he’s been a part of what is widely considered one of the best groups of wide receivers in the country, though Cincinnati is not expected to re-sign him.
In eight NFL seasons, Tyler Boyd has 513 career receptions for 6,000 yards and 31 touchdown receptions.
What is unclear in the report by Kaboly is who in the organization isn’t on board with signing Boyd and why they may not be.
Pittsburgh has a young wide receiver room right now that is currently highlighted by George Pickens. The organization has also gone through several major changes at the quarterback position. That started by bringing in Russell Wilson to be the new starting quarterback. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh traded away former first-round pick Kenny Pickett and then traded for another former first-round pick in Justin Fields.

After adding both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to their roster, the Pittsburgh Steelers noticed their Super Bowl odds make a big shift in several different sportsbooks. Fanatics moved the Steelers from 80-1 to 75-1, DraftKings moved them from 75-1 to 65-1, and BetMGM moved Pittsburgh from 80-1 to 66-1.
Obviously, the moves didn’t make Pittsburgh the favorites to win the Lombardi Trophy next season, but Vegas generally knows what it’s doing and it looks like Pittsburgh got better.
Of course, these were moves that the Steelers needed to make. They weren’t drafting in a spot to land one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft and it was clearly time to make a change at the position. So, Pittsburgh landed a veteran to start and took a bet out on a young quarterback who hasn’t made it to this point in his NFL Career.
