Joe Judge proved to be a disaster during his two-year run as the New York Giants’ head coach. The longtime NFL assistant posted a 10-23 record prior to being fired following a horrible 2021 campaign.

None of this takes away from the fact that Judge is a widely respected coach in NFL circles. The 40-year-old acted as the New England Patriots’ special teams assistant from 2012-14 before taking over as their special teams coordinator from 2015-19.

It now looks like Judge could reunite with former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. A week after he was officially hired to be the next Las Vegas Raiders head coach, McDaniels is showing interest in bringing in Joe Judge to be his special teams coordinator.

This could make sense for both sides. It was earlier on Monday that the Green Bay Packers hired former Raiders special teams coordinator and interim head coach Rich Bisaccia. There’s an obvious need here. Judge is among the most-respected in that particular field around the NFL.

This past weekend the Raiders were able to steal New York Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham for the same position. Graham had been considered a candidate for multiple head-coach openings around the NFL this cycle.

Graham and Judge also worked together for two seasons with the Giants. He served with McDaniels in New England from 2009-15, primarily coaching linebackers in the process.

Vegas also added former Ohio State and Texas defensive coordinator Chris Ash to coach its defensive backs. Ash, 48, has extensive experience coaching at all levels, including a run as the Jacksonville Jaguars safeties coach last season.

It seems pretty clear that McDaniels is hellbent on hiring a super-star coaching staff. Bringing Joe Judge into the mix to coach special teams would just be the latest example of that.
