Report reveals how DeMeco Ryans' previous lawsuit against Texans has affected his interest in their HC job

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans has emerged as one of the leading candidates to be the next head coach of the Houston Texans, and a previous lawsuit against the franchise is not affecting his interest in the job. 

That information comes via CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, who reported on Saturday that there was initially a belief within the Texans' ownership group that Ryans might not actually want the job. 

As Jones reports, not only does Ryans want the job, it is apparently the top job on his list during this current NFL coaching cycle. 

The Texans were listed as one of the defendants in a 2016 lawsuit filed by Ryans claiming that their negligence with the playing surface resulted in an injury that cut his career short. 

Ryans was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles at the time of the injury, but he had spent the first six years of his career as a member of the Texans.

The injury took place during the 2014 season. Ryans played only one season after that. 

As the lawsuit progressed, the Texans and NFL were ultimately removed from the suit while Ryans reached a settlement with the stadium management company and the turf company. 

All of this, of course, is good news for the Texans because Ryans is one of the top coaching candidates in this hiring cycle. He has been one of the key architects of a dominant San Francisco defense that has the team just one game away from the Super Bowl. 

Even if Ryans had some bad feelings toward the Texans for the injury, time has a way of mending wounds — especially when there is a head-coaching job available. There are only 32 of those, and this one presents a good opportunity with some high draft picks and a chance to build a roster the way he wants.
