Report: Saints hire former Jaguars, Bills HC Doug Marrone for 'key' offensive role
The New Orleans Saints are hiring former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone to play a role in their offensive staff, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday.
While there was initially some skepticism by Saints fans over hiring a seasoned coach instead of someone with a new perspective, the hire could benefit the Saints given Marrone's history with the team.
That criticism isn't unfounded, however. While Marrone accumulated a 60% wins-to-loss percentage as the offensive coordinator on Sean Payton's coaching staff, he did not have as successful of a run coaching in subsequent years, tallying just a 45% wins-to-loss percentage over two years with the Bills and a dismal 29% wins-to-loss percentage over five years with the Jaguars.
The Saints also promoted defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to head coach this week.
