Report: Steelers haven't discussed benching QB Mitchell Trubisky

Filling the cleats left behind by future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger was going to be a challenging task for whoever took the reins under center for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season.

Even after selecting University of Pittsburgh standout Kenny Pickett in the first round of this year's draft, the Steelers decided to go with veteran and former Chicago Bear Mitchell Trubisky at quarterback.

Through two weeks, Trubisky has struggled, leading to speculation that it might be time to give Pickett a shot.

However, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Steelers haven't considered making a change under center yet.

"There's been no conversation as of now about replacing Mitchell Trubisky," Rapoport said. "In fact, going into the season, the hope was Trubisky would be the starting quarterback the entire season. May not end up playing out like that, and certainly, if he continues to struggle, the conversation will get louder."

Trubisky hasn't been able to find a rhythm so far this season. Going 1-1 as the starter, Trubisky has a 59.2 completion percentage with 362 yards passing, two touchdowns and one interception.

In last Sunday's 17-14 loss to the New England Patriots, Trubisky finished 21-of-33 for 168 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Rapoport adds that the Steelers want to allow Trubisky the opportunity to stretch the field this week against the Cleveland Browns instead of the dink-and-dunk style he's played over the first two weeks of the season.

If Trubisky successfully opens up the Steelers offense Thursday night, he may keep his job a bit longer.
