Report: Steelers waive Devlin Hodges to make room for Josh Dobbs

The Pittsburgh Steelers claimed quarterback Josh Dobbs off waivers after he was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, and it's not good news for Devlin Hodges.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Steelers are waiving Hodges in order to make room on their roster for Dobbs.

Hodges went 3-3 last season with the Steelers, completing 62.5 percent of his passes for 1,063 yards and five touchdowns against eight interceptions. It now seems like the Samford product's only shot at remaining with the Steelers organization will be if he accepts a role on the practice squad.

Dobbs, on the other hand, likely will become Pittsburgh's third-string quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph.

The 25-year-old initially was drafted by the Steelers in 2017 and was traded to the Jaguars last season after Nick Foles broke his collarbone. He appeared in five games with Pittsburgh in 2018, completing 50 percent of his passes for 43 yards and one interception.
