Report: Texans finally request interview with Eric Bieniemy

The Houston Texans were the only team in the NFL with a vacant head-coaching position not to request an interview with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. That changed on Tuesday.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Texans have finally requested an interview with Bieniemy, one of the top available head-coaching candidates this offseason.

The news comes after it was reported last week that star quarterback Deshaun Watson was upset with the franchise for not interviewing Bieniemy, among other things.

Bieniemy will not be able to interview for the Houston job until next week at the earliest. The 51-year-old interviewed with the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions last week because Kansas City was on a bye. If the Chiefs advance in the playoffs with a win over the Cleveland Browns this weekend, Bieniemy's interview with the Texans will have to wait.

Bieniemy is in his eighth season with the Chiefs and third as offensive coordinator. He previously served as the team's running backs coach from 2013-17.

It was reported by Pro Football Network's Tony Pauline last month that Bieniemy was a strong candidate for the Texans' coaching job, particularly because he would mesh well with Watson.
