Report: Texans HC job considered the 'most undesirable' in NFL
Sunday's update regarding the Houston Texans' vacant head coaching position doesn't come as a surprise.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Texans' job went from being the "least desirable" head coaching position in the NFL to the "most undesirable."
At this point, it seems more and more likely that star quarterback Deshaun Watson will request a trade from the franchise. The 25-year-old is said to be "furious" about the direction the franchise is headed and is upset with how Cal McNair has handled the team's general manager and head coaching search, leaving him out of both after promising to take his opinions into account.
It is also expected that All-Pro defensive end J.J. Watt will be traded this offseason to a championship contender. He has remained loyal to the franchise, though his desire to win a Super Bowl likely won't happen with the Texans.
If both of those players end up elsewhere in 2021, the Texans will enter a full rebuilding mode, which isn't desirable for most head-coaching candidates. If Houston had a solid first-round draft pick and a plethora of cap space like the Jacksonville Jaguars, candidates might be more interested in the Texans HC job.
