Report: Texans request to interview Patriots' Nick Caserio for open GM position

With the regular season officially over, it's now open season for NFL teams in need of head coaches and general managers. New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio is expected to be among the hottest names on the market, and it appears teams already are checking in.

The Patriots allowed Caserio to interview with the Carolina Panthers for their open general manager position and have reportedly received another interview request for the 45-year-old. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Houston Texans have requested permission to interview Caserio for their vacant GM position.

Caserio started his career with the Patriots in 2001 as a personnel assistant. He then rose the ranks and became the team's director of player personnel in 2008. His deal with the Patriots was set to expire after the 2020 NFL Draft, but he agreed to a multi-year extension with the franchise.

The Texans tried to pry Caserio away from New England in 2019, but the language in his contract prevented that from happening. Houston's efforts led the Patriots to file tampering charges against the franchise.

ESPN analyst Louis Riddick, Baltimore Ravens director of football research Scott Cohen, Seattle Seahawks vice president of player personnel Trent Kirchner and Buffalo Bills director of pro personnel Malik Boyd have also been linked to Houston's GM vacancy.
