Report: Titans trading linebacker Kamalei Correa to Jaguars

Less than 24 hours after the Titans trounced the Buffalo Bills 42-16 in a rare Tuesday night NFL game, Tennessee coach Mike Vrabel told reporters his team will grant the trade request made by outside linebacker Kamalei Correa.

"(Titans general manager Jon Robinson) and I have both spoken to Kamalei and told him that he would be released," Vrabel said on Wednesday, per Turron Davenport of ESPN.

"Something may change if a team reaches out, but as of now we will plan to go in another direction moving on."

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported something did, in fact, change and that the Titans are trading Correa to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Correa had largely been an invisible man this fall, particularly since he was added to the reserve/COVID-19 list on Sept. 30 amid Tennessee's coronavirus outbreak. Davenport explained that Correa played only 14 percent of Tennessee's defensive snaps and 23 special teams snaps across three games.

The 26-year-old has tallied two total tackles this season.

Correa had reason to enter summer training camp sessions filled with optimism coming off a regular season where he posted a career-best five sacks. He then added two more sacks in the first playoff appearances of his career.

However, Tennessee signed proven defensive veterans Jadeveon Clowney and Vic Beasley Jr. in the offseason. They, along with others on the depth chart, made Correa surplus to requirements.

The Baltimore Ravens selected Correa in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft but dealt him to Tennessee in August 2018. He's currently on a one-year contract worth $2.5 million, which makes him relatively inexpensive.
