Report: Vikings have received trade offer for Dalvin Cook

Dalvin Cook's time with the Minnesota Vikings may be nearing its end.

After reportedly refusing to restructure his contract, Cook has seemingly forced the Vikings to find another way to shed salary or trade their star running back. According to Darren Wolfson of the SKOR North podcast, the latter option may be on the table.

During the "Sccops with Doogie" segment on Thursday's episode, Wolfson revealed that the Vikings had received a formal trade offer for Cook from at least one NFL team.

"I don't know if it's a seventh-round pick, a fifth-round pick, I don't know," Wolfson said. "I heard that there has been an offer made on Dalvin Cook, and I don't even know if the Vikings are willing to say, "Okay, let's do that." I just know that there is trade interest in Dalvin Cook."

Cook is entering the third season of a five-year, $63 million contract, which comes with a $14.1 million cap hit in 2023. However, Wolfson said there would be interest if the Vikings choose to move the four-time Pro Bowler, despite Cook's considerable cap number, due to this year's uninspiring free-agent running back class.

"There's quantity. We can debate how much quality there is after the Raiders make their move on [Josh] Jacobs, the Cowboys make their move on [Tony] Pollard, the Giants make their move on Saquon [Barkley]," Wolfson said.

Several teams will be in the market for a running back this offseason, including the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers. Wolfson added the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars to the list of clubs looking for backfield help, but it's unclear if they'd be interested in Cook.

While things could change, the writing appears to be on the wall regarding Cook's future in Minnesota. If Cook has played his last game, the former second-round pick will leave the franchise ranked third in rushing yards (5,993) and touchdowns (47).
