The Washington Commanders have signed linebacker Jabril Cox away from the Dallas Cowboys.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Cowboys hoped to sign Cox to their practice squad after waiving the linebacker on Tuesday, but it was actually the former LSU star who opted for a change in scenery, and will take his talents to Washington.
“The #Commanders are signing LB Jabril Cox to their practice squad, source says,” tweeted Garafolo. “The #Cowboys wanted him back on their practice squad, but Cox opts for the fresh start elsewhere in the NFC East with a team that had a high grade on him before the 2021 NFL Draft.”
Moreover, the Cowboys originally snagged Cox at No. 115 overall out of LSU during the 2021 NFL Draft. He was the first of two fourth-round picks but hasn’t quite lived up to expectations in Dallas. Starting with Micah Parsons, the five players drafted ahead of Cox in 2021 are all significant contributors to the Dallas defense.
The former Tiger played in 16 regular season games over the last two seasons, tallying eight tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss. In preseason action, Cox had five tackles, including four on Saturday versus the Raiders.
Perhaps Jabril Cox sees himself finding more success with the Commanders than he would’ve if he stayed in Dallas. One thing is for sure, he won’t endear himself to Dallas by making this move, even if it may make him more popular in Washington.
Nevertheless, the LSU linebacker is making the decision that he believes will best benefit his career, and time will tell if it works out.

Continuing, Dallas also released defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna. Bohanna, a 2021 sixth-round draft pick out of Kentucky, played in 27 regular games over two seasons for Dallas.
Bohanna tallied 29 tackles for the Cowboys over his first two seasons in the league. He didn’t record sacks but had 4.5 tackles for loss in 2022. He didn’t appear in postseason play for Dallas.
The team also chose to release safety Sheldrick Redwine to get down to 53 men on the roster. The former fourth-round pick out of Miami suffered a hamstring injury in the Cowboys’ second preseason game versus the Seattle Seahawks and exited after making two tackles.
Redwine last appeared in a regular season game in 2021 while playing for the Miami Dolphins. He started his career with the Cleveland Browns.
