Report: Washington to part ways with Alex Smith in the coming days
Alex Smith wants to keep playing football after a bounce-back season with the Washington Football Team in 2020. However, it appears he'll be playing elsewhere in 2021.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Kim Jones, Washington is expected to part ways with Smith in the coming days.
Smith made his return to the field for Washington in October after suffering a life-threatening leg injury in 2018. In six starts, the three-time Pro Bowler went 5-1. The 36-year-old was initially Washington's third-string quarterback behind Kyle Allen and Dwayne Haskins. Allen suffered a season-ending ankle injury, and Haskins was benched, and later cut, after struggling.
With Allen expected to return from injury in 2021 and Taylor Heinicke's re-signing, Smith was the odd man out.
It's unclear which teams might be interested in signing the 2020 Comeback Player of the Year.
