Report: Wink Martindale 'stormed out' of meeting with Giants HC Brian Daboll

Things are continuing to get ugly between New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll and outgoing defensive coordinator Don "Wink" Martindale.

It's been a wild couple of days for the Big Blue coaching staff, with all of the action seemingly centered around Daboll and Martindale.

On Monday morning, Daboll told reporters that it was his "expectation" and "plan" to have the defensive coordinator back for the 2024 season. During the same news conference, it was also announced that the organization was firing a host of assistant coaches, including outside linebackers coach Drew Wilkins and his brother, defensive assistant Kevin Wilkins.

Martindale and the Wilkins brothers worked together on John Harbaugh's staff with the Baltimore and are reportedly "close."

Hours after Daboll said that it was expected that Martindale would be retained, the latter reportedly resigned from his post. Then on Tuesday morning, multiple reports indicated that the coordinator hadn't actually submitted his resignation, the two sides were playing a "little cat and mouse game" and there was "no way this going to be a smooth process."

The 60-year-old Martindale is still under contract for one more year.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reposted this picture of the former Ravens defensive coordinator, which apparently indicates he's on his way south.
