Reporter's question about 49ers sets off Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

Dak Prescott is well aware of the Dallas Cowboys' recent struggles against the San Francisco 49ers.

So when a reporter asked him following Sunday’s 38-3 rout of the New England Patriots if he still thinks about the team’s 19-12 loss to the 49ers in the playoffs in January, it didn’t quite sit right with the 30-year-old quarterback.

“We’re so far past that that to be honest with you, that’s obvious,” Prescott said, via ESPN’s Todd Archer. “I mean, you just want to [anger me] going into this week. I appreciate that; I do, actually. I do.”

Prescot was still heated as he answered a follow up question about whether that NFC divisional-round loss motivated the Cowboys, catching himself before he swore.

“I mean every eff …,” Prescott said before subtly catching himself. “Every day. Every day. Every day. Every day.”

Dallas and San Francisco appear to be evenly matched on paper. The 49ers are ranked second in total offense, third in scoring offense, fourth in scoring defense and sixth in total defense. The Cowboys rank 11th, fourth, first and second, respectively, in the same categories.

Prescott had arguably his best game of the season against the Patriots, completing 82.4 percent of his passes for 261 yards, a touchdown and a passer rating of 108.5.

He will presumably need a similar performance against the undefeated 49ers in Week 5. San Francisco has eliminated Dallas from the playoffs each of the last two years, which have seen some of Prescott’s worst performances.

Prescott completed a combined 47-of-80 passes for 460 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in those games. He was thrown under the bus by the Cowboys social media team after January’s loss and has been under a microscope ever since.
