Miami Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater exited Sunday's game against the host New England Patriots in the third quarter with an injured finger on his right hand.

NFL Network and Pro Football Talk later reported that the finger is believed to be broken, making Bridgewater unlikely to be available for the regular-season finale against the New York Jets.

Bridgewater appeared to sustain the injury after throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. Bridgewater was seen on the sideline with his helmet off and trainers tending to his hand, and he did not return as the Patriots beat the Dolphins 23-21.

With No. 1 quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in concussion protocol, Miami may have to turn to rookie Skylar Thompson against the Jets with a playoff berth on the line.

Sunday's loss moved both New England and Miami to 8-8. The Dolphins must beat the Jets and hope that the Patriots lose to the Buffalo Bills in Week 18 to secure the final AFC wild-card spot.

Prior to exiting, Bridgewater completed 12 of 19 passes for 161 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Thompson completed 12 of 21 passes for 104 yards, a touchdown and an interception in relief. He connected with Mike Gesicki on a 4-yard touchdown with 1:04 to play, but it was in vain as Miami did not recover an onside kick.
