Reports: Packers' Aaron Rodgers to skip mandatory minicamp

The latest development in the saga involving quarterback and reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers was predicted by most observers and, now, seems inevitable.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and ESPN's Adam Schefter both report Rodgers is not expected to be in attendance when the Packers open mandatory minicamp sessions on Tuesday.

While the Packers could fine the 37-year-old future Hall of Famer roughly $93,000 for missing camp, Schefter previously explained they may waive that penalty and excuse Rodgers' absences. Green Bay clearly was prepared for this outcome amid Rodgers' reported desire for a trade, as head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters last Wednesday he didn't know if he'd see his QB1 this week.

This latest twist likely means little as it pertains to the standoff involving Rodgers and Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst. Gutekunst insists he's not trading his starting QB before the 2021 campaign, and Peter King wrote in his latest "Football Morning in America" piece Rodgers could agree to play one more season for the club so the parties could work together on a trade that benefits all involved next offseason.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, LaFleur will speak with the media at 11 a.m. local time Tuesday.
