Richard Sherman says NFL has 'serious problem' if Eric Bieniemy isn't made a head coach

Eric Bieniemy has been the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs since 2018, but despite two trips to the Super Bowl during his tenure and an NFL MVP award for Patrick Mahomes, he still hasn't become a head coach.

Bieniemy, 52, has reportedly received interest in the last week from the Denver Broncos for their coaching vacancy. But a year ago, he was interviewed by the Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers and New York Jets, and he received none of those jobs.

"If he doesn't get an offer, there is a serious problem in this league," five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman said on his podcast Thursday, via PFF.

There were just three Black coaches in the NFL during the 2021 season, but now there's only one — Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers — after the Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans fired Brian Flores and David Culley, respectively.

After early-season struggles, the Chiefs still managed to finish fourth in the NFL in points scored and third in total offense. Kansas City earned the second seed in the AFC and will host the seventh-seeded Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night.
