Rob Gronkowski believes one team is a good fit for Ravens' Lamar Jackson

New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski has hinted that Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson would be the right quarterback to play under head coach Bill Belichick.

"I think he would be a good fit, in a way. At the same time, I don’t think he would be a good fit. It kind of goes both ways," Gronkowski explained about Jackson possibly joining the Patriots during an appearance on the "Up & Adams" program, as shared by Adam London of NESN. "I feel like Coach Belichick always kind of dreamed of a quarterback — not just a pocket passer, but a Lamar Jackson-type. The one that can run the ball as well. I just feel like he likes those types of quarterbacks from all the times he talked about them in meetings and stuff when we were going against them."

It has been widely reported throughout the winter and early spring that the Patriots won't be pursuing Jackson while he's on the non-exclusive franchise tag, but one can't help but wonder if the situation has changed amid rumors claiming that Belichick "shopped" starter Mac Jones to other clubs ahead of this year's draft.

As things stand today, it seems likely Jones will have to compete with 2022 rookie Bailey Zappe for the QB1 gig this summer. Jackson would be an upgrade over either option, on paper, but Gronkowski mentioned that he believes the Patriots are "not paying" what it would cost to make the one-time NFL Most Valuable Player happy.

Jackson allegedly wants to earn more than the $230M in fully guaranteed money that Cleveland Browns signal-caller Deshaun Watson received last year. As of the Thursday before Easter, it's assumed no team is meeting that asking price.

"So therefore it’s not a good fit off the bat because of that reason," Gronkowski added about Jackson's supposed salary requests. "So, I don’t think that’s going to go down at all."

Even if Belichick and company decided to present Jackson with a massive deal, it can't be ignored that Baltimore has the right to match the offer or accept two first-round draft picks for his services.
