Robert Griffin III draws stark contrast between Ime Udoka, Brett Favre scandals
Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka and Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Brett Favre are both in the news for scandals.
One allegation is much more serious than the other, so let's get that out of the way first. Udoka will reportedly be suspended for the season for an intimate relationship with a staffer in the franchise, while Favre is alleged to have been a part of a scheme to take money earmarked for welfare in the state of Mississippi and use it to fund a volleyball facility for his alma mater, Southern Mississippi.
One scandal is salacious and juicy but ultimately not a big deal if it was consensual, while the other is illegal and could potentially end Favre and others up in some very hot water.
Still, some, at least in former Heisman trophy-winning quarterback turned football commentator Robert Griffin III's circle, are trying to compare the two situations — and he's not cool with that.
Clearly, there's not much similarity between the two, other than the fact that two sports figures are involved.
Again, Favre's scandal could end him up in major legal trouble, if the allegations against him are true. Udoka is just in a relationship, and we have no reason to believe it wasn't consensual. The only thing he did wrong was breaking his organization's guidelines against dating in the workplace apparently. Frankly, a year's suspension for that — if those are the only details of this story — seems a bit much.
These two stories are apples and oranges.
