Robert Quinn deal could rush delivery of title to Eagles

All hail "Howie The Magnificent."

In his latest stellar move, Eagles GM Howie Roseman turbocharged Philadelphia's defense and championship hopes by acquiring defensive end Robert Quinn from the Bears.

Quinn, a 12-year vet, has been one of the league's premier pass rushers over the past decade. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro. He had 18.5 sacks last season, third in the NFL and a Bears season record. He has one sack this season, mainly because he demanded so much attention in Chicago.

Per USA Today's Doug Farrar, Quinn has faced 58 double-teams this season, 29 percent of his pass-rushing attempts. Expect those stats to decline as an Eagle.

Thanks to the elite pass-rushing abilities of Haason Reddick, Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox and Josh Sweat, the Eagles rank 10th in quarterback pressures with 64. The nine teams ahead of them have not had their bye week. The Eagles are the only team in the top 10 to have played six games instead of seven.

Philadelphia is pressuring opponents on 25.2 percent of drop-backs, the NFL's seventh-best rate. With the addition of Quinn, expect Eagles opponents to struggle against the pass rush.

The trade was at least partially motivated by Derek Barnett suffering a torn ACL in Week 1. Quinn wasn't part of the long-term plan in Chicago, and the Eagles capitalized.

If Quinn is the missing piece of the championship puzzle, Eagles fans will know whom to thank.
