Robert Saleh on Mike White becoming Jets' long-term starter: 'Anything is possible'

The New York Jets drafted Zach Wilson with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but coach Robert Saleh might have already invited a quarterback controversy.

After backup quarterback Mike White led the Jets to a surprising 34-31 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Saleh wouldn't rule out the possibility that White could be Gang Green's quarterback of the future.

Wilson started the first six games of the season for the Jets before suffering a knee injury in Week 7. While Wilson is not on injured reserve, the injury is expected to keep him out of action for at least two weeks. Saleh has already announced that White will start again in Week 9.

In White's first career start Sunday, he threw for 405 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. The last Jets quarterback to eclipse 400 passing yards in a game was Vinny Testaverde in December 2000.

Wilson has thrown for 1,168 yards in his six starts with four touchdowns and nine interceptions. Following his injury, the Jets addressed their quarterback depth by trading with the Philadelphia Eagles for Joe Flacco, who started five games for Gang Green in 2020.
