Ron Rivera gives positive update on Brian Robinson Jr.

Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera gave a promising update on the status of rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr., who was shot multiple times in an attempted carjacking on August 28.

According to Commanders Wire, Rivera revealed the organization likes "what [they] see each time [they] ramp something up. He's had no ill effects so far."

He was placed on the non-football injury list following the shooting, which left the door open for a possible return to action this season. But to hear Rivera optimistic about his return to the field less than a month after the incident is surprising and wonderful news.

And while the team is looking forward to it, Rivera is not rushing Robinson Jr.'s return to the field. "In all honesty, in our hopes without giving you guys a timeline, yes," their rookie running back would return sooner rather than later.

Team doctor James Andrews, famous for working with high-profile athletes such as Drew Brees (shoulder) and Adrian Peterson (knee) on their rehabilitations, will evaluate Robinson Jr. soon to make sure he's staying on track for his return, according to Rivera.

Robinson Jr. was drafted 98th overall during the 2022 NFL Draft out of the University of Alabama. The two-time collegiate national champion had his best season with the Crimson Tide as a senior, gaining 1,639 yards on 306 touches and scoring 16 touchdowns.
