Roster bubble fan-favorite released by Colts on Tuesday

Amid a flurry of moves following the Colts’ week-one loss to the Jaguars, Indianapolis cut fan-favorite wide receiver Mike Strachan from the practice squad.

Strachan, who was drafted in the seventh round in 2021, had a tremendous rookie camp and made the opening roster in his rookie season. Through six games that year, he recorded two catches for 25 yards. Last season, Strachan caught three balls for 59 yards.

With an influx of new receivers as well as a new coaching staff, he was initially headed toward the end of his Colts career before having his third monster training camp in as many years. He proved his impressive athleticism throughout the summer and into the preseason:

Nevertheless, Strachan fell victim to three practice squad additions Tuesday and will now hit free agency.

It’s hard to believe that Strachan won’t sign elsewhere. He’s an athletic, 6-foot-5 playmaker who still has plenty left in the tank at 26 years old. The Colts are noticeably thin at receiver on the active roster but have four solid talents at the practice squad level.

For teams without much help in the area, Strachan could be a high-upside play. He’ll likely be at least given a look, and with his illustrious past in training camp and practices, he should have every chance to impress the teams that work him out.

Though his time with the Colts is likely over for good, Strachan could still take his electrifying talent to another franchise as he hopes to re-energize his career.
