Russell Wilson out vs. Jets with hamstring injury

Broncos' country, let’s ride the bench.

Quarterback Russell Wilson (hamstring) will sit this week, head coach Nathaniel Hackett announced.

The move will allow Wilson a chance to recover, both from the hits he’s taken on the field and off of it.

The Broncos are 2-4 and field the worst-scoring offense in football. They traded for Wilson, a former Super Bowl-winning QB, in a move meant to have the Broncos compete for a championship. Nearing the midway point of the season, Denver isn’t trying to win a championship. It’s trying to score points.

The team averages 15.2 points per game. Wilson is completing 58.6 percent of his passes, last among quarterbacks with at least 100 pass attempts. His struggles have not gone unnoticed.

The Broncos will turn to Brett Rypien. The third-year QB has one career start, a 37-28 at the New York Jets in 2020. He went 19-of-31 for 242 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions.

The Broncos' opponent this weekend? The Jets.

If Denver gets it going, it won’t be its $245 million man getting them there.
