Russell Wilson says he didn't request trade from Seahawks

Russell Wilson is ready to move on from the offseason drama that cast doubt on his future in Seattle.

The Seahawks quarterback told reporters on Thursday that he did not request a trade after last season's first-round playoff exit.

"I did not request a trade," Wilson told reporters repeatedly at a Thursday news conference, per the Tacoma News Tribune. "Obviously, I love Seattle. ... I've always wanted to play here for my whole career."

The statement doesn't correlate with Wilson's agent telling ESPN in February that he was willing to waive his no-trade clause for the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders or Chicago Bears. Technically he didn't ask for a trade. Rather, he let Seattle know that he'd be willing to play for other teams.

Wilson was asked about that report, and he said there was a lot of confusion.

"I think there was a lot of confusion," he said. "Everybody was saying that I requested a trade. And that wasn't true. So we made it clear that I did not request a trade. There were teams being flown around that I was gonna go to those teams, this and that."

Wilson added that he wanted to play in Seattle, but if he had to go somewhere else, those were the teams he would consider playing for.

While the Seahawks were never willing to trade Wilson, his offseason frustration was real. In February, he said he was upset about getting hit too much. Then there was a report that tensions between Wilson and Pete Carroll's coaching staff prompted the quarterback to storm out of the room during a game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Now that the two sides have moved on, it appears Wilson is ready for another season in Seattle. If things don't go well in 2021, maybe he'll finally demand a trade.
