Russell Wilson's deep ball is a breath of fresh air for the Broncos

Russell Wilson's clutch deep passes were a breath of fresh air for the Broncos on Sunday.

Late in the fourth quarter against the Jaguars, Wilson unleashed a 47-yard completion to K.J. Hamler. The play shifted momentum, and Denver escaped with a 21-17 victory.

The win gives Broncos rookie head coach Nathaniel Hackett a template he can use to create a potent offensive formula. The modifications helped Wilson relax after he threw an early interception.

"I talked with Russell, told him to take a breath, breathe and just do what he does," Hackett said in a postgame news conference. "After we saw the adjustments Jacksonville made, we are able to get some efficient plays for him."

Wilson averaged 8.4 yards per attempt, his second-highest average this season. Coincidentally, the Broncos scored more than 16 points for the first time this season.

Also, allowing Wilson to throw the ball deep helped the Broncos overcome unfavorable field position. Their three touchdown drives were 75 yards, 80 yards and 98 yards. On each drive, Wilson had a completion for 25 yards or more.

The 3-5 team still needs to improve in several areas, but these moments can help them scratch the surface offensively.

Perhaps they can unlock Wilson, who's nicknamed "Mr. Unlimited," and ride back into the playoff hunt.
