The Dallas Cowboys exited Week 2 having made an even bigger statement than they did after shutting down the Giants in Week 1 and now, the talking heads are waking up. On Monday morning’s "Get Up" on ESPN, noted Jets fan Mike Greenberg conceded that after beating New York 30-10, the Cowboys are the team to beat in the NFC.
“It’s early but the Cowboys look like the best team in football,” Greenberg said after first wallowing over the Jets’ struggles.
ESPN analyst and former Steelers star Ryan Clark had a large slice of humble pie to go with his coffee on the set on Monday morning.
Clark apologizes for doubting McCarthy’s offensive playcalling
After publicly doubting the Cowboys offense under Mike McCarthy’s control, Clark apologized profusely to the former Packers skipper.
“Mike McCarthy, I apologize,” Clark said, talking directly to the camera. “In the offseason, when you said some things about Kellen Moore not running the football, I thought it was just a lot of fodder so we could focus on you and not what you could do moving forward. You were excellent yesterday. The game plan was excellent. The speed in which you got the plays in was excellent. The way that Dak Prescott was able to see the field, you’re getting 4.6 air yards per attempt, getting the football out of his hands. Quinnen Williams isn’t a factor in any way.
“You were absolutely phenomenal. I say this without any disrespect, you are a much better playcaller right now than you were in the past and you’re a much better offensive coordinator than a head coach. You’ve found your groove. Not just because of this defense, not just because of Dan Quinn, but because of you… This team is a Super Bowl favorite and that’s because the head coach made a tough decision, getting rid of someone who is beloved in the building and being a better play-caller than Kellen Moore ever was.”
On Sunday afternoon, Dak Prescott started the game with 13 straight completions, on the way to a 31-for-38 finish with 255 passing yards and two touchdowns. The Cowboys were also able to get 134 yards on the ground on 44 carries. Tony Pollard had a career-high 25 carries and broke off a long run of 23 yards. Cowboys top wide receiver CeeDee Lamb led all receivers with 11 catches for 143 yards on Sunday.
